On January 8th, 2015, an injured calico cat was brought to Lenawee Humane Society after she was found cold and alone in Adrian, MI. She was immediately assessed by Hope Clinic's veterinarian, Dr. Erin Whalin and an infected bone was discovered sticking out of her left front leg.
We had no idea what happened to this poor animal and we had no idea how long she had been suffering. We DID know that we were going to end her pain and save her life. The only answer? Amputation.
Just four days after arriving at LHS, Whisker's front left leg was removed. Along with it went her bone infection and her endless amount of pain. By this time, several adopters had lined up to take our little fighter home. She was sent to a foster home for two weeks while she healed from her surgery and became familiar with her new situation.
Whiskers was not fazed by her amputated limb! By the time her sutures were removed just two weeks later, she was trotting, rolling around and purring like she had never been happier. Her new adopter fell in love with her immediately and couldn't keep a smile off her face. We couldn't stop smiling either. Hope had been restored and a life had been saved, all within the walls of Lenawee Humane Society!
