• Steps to take if you’ve lost a pet

  • Check the Current Strays and Found Pets sections to see if your missing pet is here at our shelter or if someone in the community has found him/her – daily if possible.
  • Create a Lost Pet Report. We will use the photo and information you provide to network your pet on our website and social media sites. With over 18k followers, our Facebook page is widely used by community members and has become best place to network lost and found pets!
  • Call Lenawee County Animal Control by calling 517-263-0524 and pressing 0 for central dispatch. You can ask Animal Control if they’ve picked up a pet matching your pet’s description.
  • Call Addison Veterinary Clinic at 517-547-7581. They also board county strays that are picked up by Lenawee County Animal Control.
  • Place a “Lost” ad with your local newspapers and radio stations. Free advertising is provided by The Daily Telegram: 517-265-5111.
  • Distribute posters that include a description of your pet, when & where they were lost, your phone number, and a photo of the animal. Talk to as many people as possible when you distribute your posters. Ask if they have seen your pet in the area.
  • If you live near a County Line, call or visit the shelter or the animal control facility in the neighboring county. Some animals can travel quite a distance in a short amount of time.
  • Check with local veterinary clinics to see if anyone has brought in a pet matching your pet’s description. Distribute your Lost Pet Report or posters to the clinics also.
  • Set up a temporary comfort station near your home (provide a bed, food, and water) to encourage your pet to stay in the area if it returns while you are gone.
  • Search for your pet, especially in the early morning hours when it is quiet. Your pet will be able to hear you calling and you will be able to hear it.
  • When you find your pet, please make sure you get your BFF microchipped and a fancy ID tag to help reunite you even faster if something unexpected happens again. Contact us at 517-263-3463 to get your pet microchipped for $20 or an ID tag for $8.99.
