We thank you for entrusting us with your pet’s care today. Please share the following instructions with everyone who will be taking care of your pet.
It is very important that you limit your pet’s activity for the next 7-10 days. Strenuous activity such as running, jumping or playing, could delay the healing process or lead to dehiscence (opening) of the surgery site. Leash walk only for the bathroom purposes until your pet is fully healed.
Please monitor the incision for any redness, oozing or swelling. If any concerns, please reach out to your regular veterinarian.
After surgery, your pet’s appetite should slowly return within 24 hours. You may give them a small amount of their regular food the same night after surgery. Water should always be made available.
Patients’ recovery from anesthesia and surgery can vary from pet to pet. It is not uncommon for them to be sleepy, nauseous, or have mild diarrhea immediately following surgery. If any of these symptoms become excessive or last longer than 24 hours, please contact your veterinarian as soon as possible.
If your pet has an E-collar (cone of shame), do not remove it for feeding or bedtime unless you are able to supervise them. If you do remove it for feeding, replace it immediately after your pet has finished eating.
Do not bathe or allow your pet to swim during the recovery (10 days). Do not apply topical ointment to the incision site. Pets must be kept indoors where they can stay clean, dry and warm; although dogs can be walked on a leash to relieve themselves.
Your pet has sutures that are under the skin and will dissolve on their own. There is no need for a recheck appointment.
