The Operations Manager is responsible for the day to day process of carrying out the work of Lenawee Humane Society. This includes the maintenance, control, and evaluation of current processes to ensure cost effectiveness, growth, and organizational stability. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for planning, development, coordination and facilitation of human resource management activities which may include: recruitment, orientation, policy training and maintenance, employee separation, benefits and all applicable laws related to human resources.
The Operations Manager reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for providing business management for human resources; organizational, employee and public policies; and administrative services as they relate to the business aspects of the organization. This includes retail and business operations; auditing; policy and procedure development and maintenance, record keeping, regulation compliance; grant writing and reporting; providing all human resource functions, including keeping up on HR regulations, assist in the implementation of LHS’s sustainability and strategic plans. Providing these services in an effective and efficient manner will ensure a sound sustainable organization.
Responsibilities
1. Management of all organizational policies to ensure that operations are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner.
- Provide orientation and policy overview to all new employees.
- Ensure the confidentiality and security of all organizational records and files.
- Maintain and update all organizational licensing, regulation forms and submit in a timely manner.
- Write grants for all new programs.
- Create policies and processes around new programs before they are implemented.
- Ensure that workplace health, safety, security and privacy activities are compliant with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations
2. Management of all human resource policies, procedures and files in order to ensure effective and efficient organizational operations that comply with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
- Develop/select, implement, evaluate and update policies and procedures toprotect employees, volunteers and other individuals to minimize the organization’s loss and liability.
- Assist managers with employee training, write-ups and separation.
- Perform exit interviews for employees leaving the organization.
- Communicate and train all employees on policies and procedures and keep them abreast of all updates.
- Ensure the confidentiality and security of all employee files.
3. Management of all public policies as they relate to animal welfare, our mission and
community regulations.
- Address public concerns regarding animal welfare laws and regulations in our communities.
- Research to understand and implement better methods to improve animal welfare.
- Advocate for animal rights to help educate and create a more humane community.
Requirements
- Degree in Business or Human Resources is highly desirable
- Experience and demonstrated abilities in all facets of employee recruitment, hiring, orientation, maintenance and separation
- Ability to prepare and distribute written and verbal information to inform employees of benefits, compensation and personnel policies
- Ability to prepare and deliver presentations and reports to management staff, finance committee and Executive Committee
- Ability to establish methods to improve employment practices and human resource policies and procedures
- Ability to determine and establish methods to decrease organizational costs without sacrificing quality
- Must be able to able to multitask
- Must possess a valid drivers’ license
- Must be self motivated
- Must be flexible and able to change assignment when circumstances require
- Must possess tact and patience necessary to work with customers and donors
- Ability to attend trainings and educational seminars.

Working Conditions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The Operations Manager will spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain. Constant computer work may be straining on the eyes.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The incumbent is located in a busy office, where you may be faced with constant interruptions and must meet with others on a regular basis.
SENSORY DEMANDS
The incumbent must spend long hours in intense concentration. Must also spend long hours on computer entering information which requires attention to detail and high levels
of accuracy.
MENTAL DEMANDS
There are a number of deadlines associated with this position, which may cause significant stress. The incumbent must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
