How they work:
Pets picked up by animal control or taken to an animal shelter are scanned with a microchip scanner upon arrival. If the pet is microchipped, the implanted microchip emits an RF (radio frequency) signal. The microchip’s unique ID code will appear on the scanner with a phone number for that microchip’s registry. When the microchip registry is called, the registry company uses the ID number to retrieve the pet parent’s contact information from the pet recovery database.
