Several weeks ago, a beautiful Great Pyrenees named Karma came to Lenawee Humane Society and was desperately searching for a new family. Her story reached over 15,000 within a couple of days and two amazing potential adopters with extensive breed experience stood out. It was extremely tough to choose just one family to take this sweet girl home. Karma went home with one family and we held on tightly to the other family's adoption application – just in case.
As "karma" would have it, we were contacted by someone earlier this week. What appeared to be another Great Pyrenees mix was spotted near the edge of a road in Monroe County. It appeared that this dog had had puppies at some point and was possibly abandoned in this area.
The finder contacted Monroe County Animal Control along with Lenawee Humane Society, checking to see if anyone had reported this beautiful girl missing. No reports had been filed. The dog was advertised as missing, but no one came forward to claim her.
Patiently waiting near the edge of the road where she was possibly abandoned
Marcie Cornell, our executive director, knew that we had the perfect home ready for this girl! She contacted the other adopter who was initially interested in Karma and connected her with the finder of this abandoned dog. With almost no hesitation, the potential adopter agreed to meet the dog, who had been named "Libby" by her finder, and a beautiful love story is now unfolding!
Libby's new adopter says:
I received a call from Lenawee Humane Society today. Awhile back I had filled out an adoption application for a Great Pyrenees that they had up for adoption. Well we didn't get chosen for that dog but they kept my application on file. They called me to explain that a woman had contacted them about a dog that had been sitting at the side of the road for three days out in the country. She had only found out about it because someone sent her pictures and told her about this dog that stood up and watched every time a car drove by. After hearing that the dog had been sitting there so long, she went and got the dog on Thursday. The lady did not want the dog in a shelter and was kind enough to keep her until someone suitable could be found. The Lenawee Humane Society was happy to assist and said they cared more about facilitating a transfer than collecting adoption fees. Thumbs up to them! Today I got the call and I went to her house in Michigan to go meet Libby, the big white dog she rescued. She named her Libby and she seem to answer to it so Libby is her name. When I got to [her finder's] house I met the sweetest dog. She definitely looked to have some Great Pyrenees in her but she's a mix I'm sure. So polite and seemed to take to me right away. Of course I brought some string cheese. That's always a good ice breaker. After talking to [her finder] and looking at the dog it seems that she just recently had puppies as she is still spotting blood and has obviously been nursing a litter. We just arrived home a short time ago, in the dark. She was so good in the car. Not one problem. Introduction to Tuesday did not go well at all. Libby seems very dominant, but Tuesday is also a dominant dog so we will take it one step at a time. Her hormones are in an uproar, she's missing her pups and now to get used to all the smells, animals and everything. So as Libby's story unfolds keep her in your puppy prayers. We will give her some time to decompress from all that life has thrown her way before introducing her to our goats. I think Olaf would probably be the best ambassador of friendship for her. Stay tuned. As they say, the best things in life are free. Thank you Tereasa for rescuing this girl. Thanks Lenawee Humane Society for matchmaking.
Libby's adopter tells us that everything is going well so far! Libby has made friends with Olaf, a male Great Pyrenees, and is working on becoming friends with Tuesday, a yellow lab mix. She's acclimating well to the goats on the farm and absolutely loves her new family. We couldn't be happier for this perfect match!!
