Our hearts and thoughts go out to the family of Howard “Kiel” Plummer, Jr., a dedicated supporter of Lenawee Humane Society, who sadly passed away on May 19, 2017.
Kiel founded a life-saving fund for shelter dogs at Lenawee Humane Society, called Vicki’s Fund, in honor of his late wife who preceded him in death on March 5, 2010. Since then, Vicki’s Fund has helped save hundreds of homeless dogs with life-threatening illnesses or injuries who otherwise may not have had a second chance at life.
While making arrangements to set up the new fund, Kiel took a tour of our shelter. Although he loved dogs, he had no intentions of going home with an animal that day. However, a little dog named Grace had other plans and quickly had Kiel wrapped around her little paw. She stole his heart within minutes during his tour and the very next day they went home together!
Kiel was a dog person and not so fond of cats, but that changed when he met his current wife, Gloria. She helped open his eyes to the wonderful world of cats and often came to visit Lenawee Humane Society with Kiel. These two amazing people were more like an extended part of our LHS family.
Grace and the other dogs who have been saved by Kiel’s generosity are part of his legacy that will continue to live on at Lenawee Humane Society. You can help keep Kiel’s legacy alive by donating to Vicki’s Fund in memory of him.
Rest in Peace, Kiel. We appreciate your dedication, compassion, and generosity so much more than you ever knew. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
