Around 4:45pm on Monday, March 13, a staff member watched a black SUV pull into our parking lot. She assumed the vehicle was arriving with a few Reading Buddies (school-aged children who come read to our animals on Mondays) but to her surprise the vehicle quickly left. It didn't take long for her to notice that the vehicle had left someone behind.
The staff member rushed outside into the freezing weather (the temperature was only 23 degrees) and scooped up a senior beagle who was shivering in the parking lot, close to the busy street. The dog was so confused and frightened that she did nothing but cuddle into the staff member's arms. We named her Minerva and set her up for the night with tons of blankets, toys, and food.
Several days later, Minerva started coming out of her shell. She would perk up when she saw people and show her excitement when those people brought her yummy treats. She is so thankful for everyone who reached out to help by networking her story and sending donations to help with her care.

As soon as Minerva was cleared to leave the shelter, an amazing family came to scoop her up and make her forget about her past. Minerva loves her humans and her canine companions. She even sleeps with a little smile on her face!
"She has stole my heart! She is a sweetheart, and we are doing everything we can to make her healthy and happy. She loves her brothers, and they love her. She goes for walks with them each night, and sleeps in our bed. Nothing but the good life from here."
