Here at Lenawee Humane Society, we pride ourselves on our cleanliness and cozy atmosphere. However, sometimes these things mean nothing when a new arrival has anxiety issues and loves being surrounded by people.
This is Coco. A ten year old german shorthaired pointer on anxiety medication, we knew immediately he was going to be a challenge when his owner contacted us because he was forced to give Coco up. Coco, like most high-energy breeds, was not going to adjust well to being housed in a kennel until a new family was found.
As soon as Coco was surrendered to our shelter, we began making phone calls to specific breed rescue groups. Rescue groups are an amazing resource for animals who cannot adjust to the shelter environment for several reasons. Rescue groups are usually breed specific, and therefore experts in their targeted breed. This means that when it comes to placing these dogs in new homes, they're very, very good at it. Rescue groups are also usually foster-based, which means their animals never have to live in a kennel. They live on comfy couches and learn how to behave in the "real world."
Two days after being surrendered to LHS, Southeast Michigan Bird Dog Rescue came to meet Coco. After hearing his story and looking into his big brown eyes, they signed the transfer paperwork and took this handsome guy with them.
Coco is now enjoying life on the couch and enjoying his current "pit stop." We want to give a huge thank you to Southeast Michigan Bird Dog Rescue for giving this pooch the second chance we knew he needed!
