Imagine living your entire life outside, alone, on a chain. This was Charlize's life before she entered our shelter two short months ago. When we first met this gorgeous girl, she was pregnant and ready to deliver at any second. Our hearts broke even more when we learned that this was not her first litter. Unfortunately, Charlize's last litter was born outside with her and sadly, she lost every single puppy. We refused to let that same outcome happen again.
Several days after she arrived, Charlize gave birth to 9 beautiful puppies. One puppy was born with medical issues and did not survive past the first day, but the remaining 8 puppies grew into chunky, healthy miniature models of their mother over the next several weeks. Charlize spent part of this amazing journey in a foster home, where we learned that she's actually a lap-dog at heart and she loves snuggling with every person she meets.
Once Charlize had completed her motherly duties and finished weaning her puppies, she left the shelter for a foster home of her very own. That first night, however, Charlize took a turn for the worse.
Charlize's breathing was heavy, she was struggling to walk and arching her back in pain. She was immediately rushed to Blue Pearl Emergency Hospital in Ann Arbor where she spent most of the night. Through it all, her amazing foster mom never left her side.
Charlize was diagnosed with mastitis, an inflammation of the breasts that had become septic. Without treatment, this infection could have had deadly consequences. Charlize was placed on an IV and she's now recovering from her ordeal with the help of antibiotics. She's is in much better spirits, and through the entire ordeal she has remained loving and thankful. We are so appreciative to everyone who is currently working together to save Charlize's life, and we know she is too.
However, we still need your help to cover the costs of Charlize's medical expenses. With your help, she can conquer this infection and find the forever home she's been patiently waiting for her entire life. Whether big or small, any amount you're able to donate will help us save Charlize.
