PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Fundraising Manager will assist in identifying, growing and strengthening relationships in order to expand Lenawee Humane Society’s presence in the community and generate funding to assist homeless, abandoned and abused animals. The Fundraising Manager is responsible for developing, organizing and executing fundraising events, recruiting sponsors, vendors and fundraising volunteers and encouraging support through promotional activities.

SCOPE

The Fundraising Manager reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for identifying, soliciting and cultivating donor relations. The Fundraising Manager will keep the organization’s donor records up to date by adding new sponsors, updating pertinent information regarding donors/sponsors and preparing for solicitations. The Fundraising Manager may also be expected to provide facility tours to interested donors and lead on fundraising efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Work with LHS team members to continue to help develop a comprehensive fundraising program that includes annual giving, major gifts, leave a legacy, endowments, capital campaigns, identifying and securing major event sponsors, donor recognition programs and corporate giving programs.

2. Develop, organize and execute fundraising events.

3. Recruit volunteers to participate in the Fundraising committee in an effort to successfully meet fundraising budget goals.

4. Research and recruit local and corporate businesses to sponsor and/or underwrite fundraising events.

5. Communicate the mission, vision and values of Lenawee Humane Society to the community and potential sponsors/donors.

6. Promote Lenawee Humane Society through involvement with the community and attendance at other community events.

7. Maintain thorough and accurate records of donors, sponsors and gifts.

8. Implement long-term strategies to increase donor retention.

9. Interface with donors to encourage attendance and/or support of annual fundraising events.

10. Write funding proposals for sponsorships and grants with the help of leadership team.

11. Exhibit positive working attitude by demonstrating respect for fellow workers, donors and customers.

12. Responsible for navigation and use of the Donor Perfect Data Management System in order to maintain and understand all donors, their needs and level of commitment.

13. Lead the Fundraising committee, including soliciting potential members and training committee volunteers.

14. Work closely with communications department to ensure they have necessary information and details needed for the development of event marketing materials.

15. Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor degree in relevant field preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in donor development, including solicitation of major personal gifts.
  • Working knowledge of personal solicitation, prospect research, fundraising management, charity law, management and public relations.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills including sentences and paragraph construction, proper grammar and spelling, concise and professional writing and public speaking.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Must have ability to use computers and manage data and compose reports and analyze reports.
  • Focused experience with emphasis on customer relationship building, and demonstrated ability to engage others in our cause.
  • Must have understanding of fundraising, including basic selling skills, proper stewardship, and various approaches to generating revenue as well as knowledge of mail and telephone techniques.
  • Must be able to work effectively with people from different backgrounds and respect diversity.
  • Must have a positive attitude, offer strong self-motivation, and demonstrate a willingness to commit to the values of Lenawee Humane Society.
  • Must participate effectively on teams and offer ideas to enhance the organization.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License
  • Must be flexible and able to change assignment when circumstances require.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands

Position is physically demanding at times. Incumbent must be able work at computer for long periods of time. He or She must also be able to navigate the stairs as the offices are upstairs in our facility.

Consistent with an animal shelter environment.

Sensory Demands

Ability to withstand constant phone ringing. Ability to withstand excessive barking at times. May come in contact with strong odors, including chemicals used for disinfecting.
