We celebrate the unsung hero of the home, your dog! The annual Dog Days of Summer event is back on August 5, 2022, as a part of Downtown Adrian’s First Friday event. No registration or costume is required to participate.
The fun starts at 5:30 PM with parade line up and a family reunion group picture behind The Wagley Group building in the parking lot off from Winter Street. The parade will start promptly at 6:00 PM led by both Adrian College mascot Bruiser and members of the cheer team and Siena Heights University mascot Halo!
Contests will immediately follow the parade at the downtown Adrian four corners. This year’s costume contests that are sponsored by First Presbyterian Church with prizes donated by Tasty Treats of Adrian.
The contests include Best Homemade Costume, Most Original Costume, Cutest Costume, and Funniest Costume. The judges back by popular demand include Mayor Angie Sword-Heath, Veterinarian Dr. Mike Herr, and Dog Trainer Ted Aranda. Next up in our unsung hero celebration will be a pie eating contest presented by the Lenawee Humane Society. Line up with your dog, grab a whipped cream filled plate, wait for the green flag from one of the volunteers, then slurp away to see which dynamic duo finishes first! There will be 3 categories-small dogs, medium dogs and large dogs with a prize in each category.
Continue to celebrate your dog throughout Downtown Adrian by fetching a PawsPort from The Wagley Group, The Lenawee Humane Society, the First Presbyterian Church and any participating downtown business. Visit the downtown area businesses, get your PawsPort stamped, and then turn your card back in at The Wagley Group by 8:00 PM. This allows you to enter a contest to WIN a Yeti cooler filled with goodies presented by participating downtown Adrian businesses and the City of Adrian.
